Personal Social Health Education (PSHE)
At St Anne’s CE Primary School we endeavor to equip our children with the skills to be physically and mentally healthy individuals and believe that this is our primary priority and that this must be done in partnership with our families and local community. We aim to grow confident, resilient, independent and responsible citizens and believe that our PSHE curriculum plays a central role in this. We strive to create independent thinkers, who have clear aspirations and individuals who respect diversity and different viewpoints. At St Anne’s CE Primary school, our PSHE learning is implicitly linked with our school mission statement, our values and our Christian ethos.
Our pupils are given opportunities in PSHE, SEAL (Social Emotional Aspects of Learning) lessons and Collective Worship to develop confidence, self-motivation, social skills and an understanding of their rights and responsibilities within our diverse society.
We teach PSHE in a variety of ways: as a discrete subject, through SEAL and through the Jigsaw curriculum, and indirectly through other subjects such as RE, History, Geography and Science. Much of our learning is also through ‘caught’ opportunities e.g. when resolving conflicts between friends and listening to world news.
Each year group will cover a variety of topics including Anti Bullying, E-safety and Relationship/Sex Education.
We encourage all our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to school life. Our Pupil Parliament is elected yearly and, is just one way, we ensure the voice of our children is heard.
